Line-up
The album's third, Turn Back, marked the return to the traditional sextet arrangement of previous albums. It was a stronger, more consistent effort with an edge that was more pronounced than Hydra. Its edgier sound reflected the maturation of the group and included drummer Bobby Kimball's increased proficiency on the drums, as well as a more mature, confident vocal delivery from singer Joseph Williams. Keyboardist David Paich's work was sharper, more intricate, and less derivative than previously recorded recordings.
